Again a failure to hold on to a lead

Apparently Charlton were unable to compete physically with Cambridge United yesterday, in part because of injuries, although arguably that was not the only problem: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-lack-player-profile-to-compete-physically-with-teams-like-cambridge-united-claims-head-coach-appleton/

I was amused that the report states that neither side was able to start a 'major chant' in the first half, but no wonder supporters were fed up.

According to reports I have seen, the foul that led to the decisive penalty was outside the box, but it is no good expecting referees to get things right or consult their so-called assistants.

  1. Having seen the 'highlights' the foul for the penalty was outside the box, but the player made sure he fell into it. The Ref only gets one look and the assistant Ref (linesman as we sensibly used to call them) made no intervention.
We can and do moan about it, but don't moan when poor decisions go our way. It's football. VAR is the option and look how well that's working.....................
If we hadn't wasted the whole first half in a turgid festival of nothingness, we may have got the result we wanted. Once again Appletons team selection looked a little odd. How was an untried Henry Rylah in front of Daniel Kanu? and his substitutions baffling.
