The pruning begins

The pruning of the Charlton squad promised by CEO Charlie Methven has begun with a loan deal for Terry Taylor to join Northampton Town.  His time at Charlton has been blighted by injury, but some fans think that this is a load of Cobblers and he has simply been out of favour with Nathan Jones: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/extremely-diligent-charlton-midfielder-makes-loan-move-to-northampton-town/

Initial fan reaction on social media has been mixed.   One fan said that he was overrated and there was a reason why three managers had not used him.

Another commented: 'Don't understand the decision behind sending one of our most creative players out on loan (Taylor) when we have been crying out for someone creative in the squad. Surely they have someone lined up to strengthen us and its not just about getting rid in this window.'

I think if one takes Methven seriously (and I accept that he is slippery) 'getting rid' is the agenda.

You couldn't make it up

Leading Millwall fan Danny Baker has complained that photos displaying Gregg Wallace's Millwall tattoo are damaging the reputation of the club.  Cue an intervention by Rod Liddle or one of the other charm merchants that supports them.

Quite a few fans have said they would like to seen us drawn at home to Millwall in the FA Cup, but our record against them is not good.   We have done better against Palace (recalling the Fortune goal).  Someone like Stoke City at home would give us a chance.   My nightmare is Tamworth away.  Among top clubs I would like Tottenham Hotspur who could go all 'Spursy'.

It has been pointed out that his goals were scored against a League Two club, albeit it one in 2nd place and with excellent home form.   I am pleased to see any Charlton player finding form, even if has meant training with the legendary barn door in Kent.

Taylor told a bike is available

His time at Charlton after his arrival from Burton was marred by an ankle injury.

Richard Cawley reports: 'If Mason Burstow does join Hull City then Charlton do have sell-on from deal they negotiated when they sold the striker to Chelsea. But that is only if he moves for more than £1.5m. Then the Addicks will get a percentage of any profit.'

Charlton Athletic have enquired about Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris ahead of the January transfer window. The Addicks were keen on a move for the 29-year-old in the summer and have reignited their interest.
