Alessia Russo's stunning goal against Sweden in the Euro semi-finals has attracted widespread attention. Casey Stoney writes: 'I remember Alessia Russo as my mascot as a young girl in 2006 when she was in the Centre of Excellence at Charlton Athletic and I was captain of the senior team. It made me smile when someone on Twitter found the photo of us in the tunnel and posted it after the game on Tuesday night.'
'Having that opportunity as a mascot gave Russo a taste of women's football in this country, and now she is one of the leading stars. I remembered she was my mascot back then when I signed her for Manchester United in September 2020, and we laughed about it.'
