Farewell, and thanks for all you tried to do

Tyreece Campbell has agreed a new deal with Charlton, reports Richard Cawley.   The winger had been due to be out of contract this summer - although age would have meant he was liable for compensation. Terell Thomas and Michael Hector both released along with Richard Chin, Jack Payne, Lewis Ward and Diallang Jaiyesimi (who he? Ed).

The retained list statement also seems to indicate no late U-turn on George Dobson's move to Fehervar. "The club would like to thank George Dobson, who has played 144 games for Charlton since joining in 2021. He's given his all for the club in every training session and every game and everyone at the club wishes him all the best in Hungary."

Lualua and Wickham have not been offered new contracts, all loan players are returning to their clubs.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Chuks Aneke is leaving by mutual consent.

Holden makes a good call on exit decisions

I think that Dean Holden got his cull of players and decisions on retained players just about right.  Michael Hector and Terrell Thomas deserved a place, although Aaron Henry will need to continue his development on loan: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-offer-trio-new-deals-but-defender-and-midfielder-to-leave/

Albie Morgan always tried his hardest, but lacks the consistent quality needed in a team hopefully aiming for promotion.  He should find his level in League Two, perhaps reunited with George Lapslie at Gillingham.

Sean Clare may count himself a little unlucky, but never made a position his own.  Again, thanks for everything.   Ryan Inniss will have time to curate his red card collection.

There are six players returning from loans and we may not want to hold on to any of them, apart possibly from Deji Elerewe, but he may have a future at Bromley.   There must be a question mark over Joe Wollacott's future.   Maynard-Brewer has his critics, but perhaps needs a more experienced keeper to challenge him.

Good riddance to Macaulay Bonne who was not the danger at Championship or League One level that the Zimbabwe press thinks, but perhaps it was a slow news day in Harare: https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zim-born-striker-linked-with-charlton-athletic-summer-exit/

Thomas in favour, Clayden leaves

Terrell Thomas was set to leave Charlton on deadline day, but he stayed and has impressed Dean Holden since then and has been called up for St.Lucia: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-defender-set-for-january-transfer-window-exit-back-in-favour-in-se7/

In they come and out they go

Defender and free agent Michael Hector has joined Charlton on a short contract while the Gavin Kilkenny loan deal has gone ahead as anticipated: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64470956

It's a starring or at least supporting actor role for Eoghan O'Connell who joins Wrexham who lost two defenders to injury on Sunday: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/hollywood-a-listers-announce-charlton-athletic-departure-for-wrexham-bound-eoghan-oconnell/

Terrell Thomas may become a vegan and join Forest Green.   Sam Lavelle could join Burton as the clearout continues.

Thomas wants to stay

Terrell Thomas is delighted to be able to fulfill his dream of playing at The Valley and is looking for a longer term contract: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/wait-for-his-charlton-debut-is-worth-it-for-terell-thomas-defender-already-targets-landing-long-term-contract/

When he was in the Academy it was a turbulent time at The Valley, culminating in the arrival of 'Gobby'.

Eight goal thriller

Charlton came back from two goals down twice at The Valley this afternoon.   They went 0-2 down against Ipswich, fought back to 2-2 but then conceded two late goals to make it 2-4.   Thomas then scored his first goal for Charlton to make it 3-4  and Charlton scored again in the last seconds to make it 4-4.

Egbo picked up an early impact injury and was replaced by Morgan.    The game had a lively start.  Charlton kept the ball well in the first quarter of an hour.

Ipswich won the first corner.    An effort by Burns was wide.   At the halfway point Charlton were more than holding their own.

The game became a bit scrappy and low tempo.  Ipswich were being patient and making Charlton chase down.

Following a free kick, Ipswich won a corner.    Stockley headed it away.

Ipswich won another corner after a good run.   The move ended with a Charlton free kick.

O'Connell had to defend at the expense of a corner after Charlton had tried to mount an attack.  O'Connell required treatment and had to be helped off the pitch.   Lavelle replaced him.

There were whistles from the crowd and if there was another one the players would be taken off.

Ipswich got a soft free kick against Dobson.

Six minutes were added on.   Jules put in a shot after poor defending leading to a corner.   Edmundson scored with a free header for Ipswich.   Jules was booked for protesting about an alleged handball.

Steve Brown thought that the two changes had disjointed our performance and Ipswich had grown into it as the half had gone on.

Curbs asked why Morgan was marking Edmundson when we had bigger players.   Lavelle was not marking anybody.   The lack of goalmouth activity by us was a worry.   Stockley was a bit isolated.

HT: 0-1

Dobson got a yellow card for a challenge.   Clare got a yellow card for dissent.   Ipswich got their second through Jules at the near post with another free header.   The initial reaction to the free kick was slow.   Ben Garner was sent off for complaining about the free kick.   Curbs didn't think it was a free kick.   The referee was having a nightmare.

Stockley and Kirk were taken off and Aneke and Blackett-Taylor came on.  Dobson took the armband.

Aneke advanced down the right, Blackett-Taylor's shot was saved but Rak-Sakyi scored in front of the Covered End.   Walton was given a yellow card for holding on to the ball.  After the re-start, Wollacott had to make a brilliant save from a free header by Jules.

Ipswich made a treble substitution.

Blackett-Taylor got a shot away, the keeper couldn't hold it and Albie Morgan scored.

Ipswich conceded a corner from a Blackett-Taylor cross.   Morgan's corner was not very good.

Edwards had a chance to score after poor defending but he put it behind for a goal kick.

Ipswich turned Lavelle and scored to make it 2-3 from 20 yards out.    They then made it 2-4 on 95 minutes, the shot took a deflection.

Thomas got one back for Charlton on 96 minutes to make it 3-4 after a Morgan free kick.   Blackett-Taylor was on the back post to give his third assist of the game.

Thomas had to make a great tackle to win the ball back for Charlton.   Dobson made it 4-4 on 99 minutes with a header.   Charlton are now 9th.

Ben Garner it was an incredible game, we had matched the best side in the league for long spells.   'I am incredibly proud of the whole group, the character in the closing stages.   The atmosphere was unbelievable.   We have to use this as a springboard.  We need to work towards getting the depth they've got.   I don't know what I got sent off for, I didn't swear and I wasn't aggressive.   The referee spent all the time before the game telling my staff he was a Championship referee.'

Curbs said that Dobson didn't give up.  Dobson said it was 'a mad game, an absolute roller coaster.  It showed where we are as a team.  We've got to use that as fuel now.  I saw the ball loop in, it was a wonderful feeling.  I've been making late runs, trying to get in the box in the last five or ten minutes of games.  They've got the best squad in the league, it was a really good battle.   It's one of those games that comes round every four or five years.   I love it here, I just give everything for the club.'

Centre back signs

Former Academy player Terrell Thomas has signed for Charlton: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/terell-thomas-seals-charlton-athletic-return/

Additional cover there is welcome, a forward would be even more so, but there are not many good ones who are free agents.
