May goes in June

All the indications are that Alfie May is to join Huddersfield for a rumoured fee of £750,00 which would represent a profit of half a million.   According to Richard Cawley his wife hails from Yorkshire and has already moved the family up there.

It would be disappointing news, particularly given that Miles Leaburn is likely to be out until October at least.  However, if a player wants to go, it doesn't make sense to stop them.

It has been said that Jones thought that May did not suit his style of play and there were one or two occasions when I was surprised he didn't start him.   But that's all speculation.

Reliable strikers are like gold dust even at League One level, but the hunt will now be on.

It now looks as if May go to Birmingham which hopefully might mean a bit more money althoigh it could be in the form of add ons.

  1. I don't believe 'May wants to go' It's more a case of Jones has something against Alfie.
Either way it's a crass, idiotic, mad decision. If we can't score goals next season and are struggling again, NJ will be looking for another job before the January window.

  2. After a one month bounce, the last 8 games produced 9 points against the league's weaker teams, whilst playing abject, Adkinsesque football. In six months we've sold our best creative player, our best midfielder and captain (an ongoing farce) and our top scorer, EFL player of the year.

I go into this season with very little evidence that Jones has a convincing plan. I'll give him the first few games to see if his pre-season and new signings produces a coherent looking side. If it doesn't, my patience will be wearing very thin, very rapidly.

I'm a bit perplexed that being better than Appleton seems to have earned so much good faith from so many Charlton fans. Towards the end of last season we were consistently awful, so this latest news is pretty hard to accept. On a more positive note, I expect Berry to be outstanding at this level but a lot rests on his shoulders.
