Aneke looks to be out for rest of the season

Nathan Jones was clearly unhappy about Chuks Aneke being sent off at Wycombe, but it doesn't look as if the club will challenge the red card: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-boss-jones-on-aneke-red-card-there-is-more-on-that-i-can-promise-you/

Lloyd Jones is understandably pleased with his defensive contribution this season and in particular the way he dealt with Wycombe striker Richard Kone: https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/it-means-a-lot-charlton-defensive-rock-jones-delighted-after-20th-clean-sheet-of-season/

  1. You might be right, Wyn, about Chuks's season being over but I'm not sure how you get that from NJ's comments to SLP.
If CAFC were going to challenge the red, they'd have done it by now. Appealing cards at this level is only ever worthwhile in cases of mistaken identity. EFL doggedly backs its referees no matter how miserable their performance. The TV coverage cut away before Chuks did what the ref punished him for. Chuks is experienced enough to know not to get wound up by that sort of gamesmanship, the fact he got involved at all, that late into a game, when we're 4 nil up does him no credit at all.
The "more on that" I suspect is the fact that Leahy got away with the cynical kick. Some eye witnesses suggest Leahy ran into CA's bulk and then playacted. All too often seen. The ref was woefully inconsistent throughout. Two weeks off is probably just what Chuks needs before a potential late cameo in the semi-final 2nd leg.
His Charlton career ends next month in any event.
It is very largely on him that it will probably end in such dismal fashion.
NJ's ire ought to be rooted in his realisation that throwing Chuks on at that stage was plain stupid. There was no upside to Chuks playing, all that could happen was injury or cards. But NJ's never been one for owning up to fallibility

  2. I inferred it from Jones not explicitly saying there would be an appeal which would have been a waste of time and effort for the reasons you state.
