Robinson in for MK Dons keeper

Karl Robinson is planning a bid for MK Dons keeper David Martin: New keeper?

Declan Rudd has returned to Norwich and been granted a one year extension of his contract. However, I have reservations about Rudd (I think Phillips is at least as good) and would not want to make a bid for him.

Martin comes from a football family: Career details

Pigs fly but Charlton don't

Flying pigs delayed the start of the game between Coventry City and Charlton at the Ricoh today and a second wave saw the players taken off. The match ended 1-1 which relegated Coventry, but it wasn't an inspiring performance from the Addicks. Coventry's back four didn't look strong and their left back was limping in the final phase, but the Addicks failed to go for the three points.

After the flying pigs, the game got off to a slow start. On 20 minutes an excellent DaSilva cross saw Byrne head against the bar. Magennis beat his man with a lovely turn, but the ball went just over.

Pearce denied Thomas with an important tackle, but the Sky Blues made it 1-0 from the corner. Taken short, the set piece caught Charlton off guard. Panic set in and the defending was sloppy.

On 38 minutes Rudd stopped it being 2-0, saving well from Jones. Magennis drew a save from Burge.

HT: Sky Blues 1, Addicks 0

An early Coventry corner was scrambled away. From a Holmes corner, Magennis flicked the ball on and Bauer equalised with a header on 54 minutes.

Konsa was replaced by Forster-Caskey. Crofts got a yellow card for a foul.

Rudd kept Charlton in the game with a great save from Jones and another one from G Thomas. Aribo replaced Holmes on 78 minutes. Forster-Caskey drew a save from Burge with a powerful shot.

In time added on, Burge came up for a Coventry corner. With the Coventry goal open, Rudd supplied Magennis, but he missed.

Charlton have gone up to 15th.

Unconfirmed reports state that Karl Robinson will not see out his contract, but will join Wigan.

Step towards survival

Charlton took an important step towards survival with a 2-1 win over playoff hopefuls Southend United at The Valley this afternoon. The Addicks are now five points off the relegation zone and have eight teams below them.

Ricky Holmes opened the scoring for the Addicks on six minutes. The visitors equalised five minutes later, but Forster-Caskey created the winner on 74 minutes.

Holmes picked the ball up on the left flank and, with Jason Demetriou backing off, he advanced into the penalty area and unleashed a low, left footed shot which seemed to fly through the legs of Blues’ on loan goalkeeper Christian Walton at the near post before nestling in the back of the net.

After the break, an Addicks corner caused chaos in the Shrimpers' penalty area as Josh Magennis' overhead kick deflected off a Southend player which had to be cleared off the line. After 61 minutes, Stephen McLaughlin was put through by Simon Cox but Declan Rudd did well to deny the midfielder.

Charlton then took the lead after 74 minutes when Nathan Byrne's cross was flicked on by substitute Jake Forster-Caskey before the ball came off Southend defender Thompson to concede an own goal.

The Addicks threatened with Josh Magennis seeing a close range effort ruled out for offside. In reply, McLaughlin then sent a low shot straight at Rudd before the Irishman’s 25 yard free-kick was pushed wide of the left post by the keeper. But, right at the death, the Shrimpers wasted a clearer chance to score when Nouble headed McGlashan’s left wing cross wide of the right post from inside the six yard box.

Karl Robinson thinks that training at The Valley helped and has declared that none of the players took the piss in today's match. just as well with so many vinegar pissers in the crowd: Robinson jubilant

Robinson: I want to keep Rudd

Karl Robinson would like to keep on loan goalkeeper Declan Rudd on a permanent contract next season: Permanent deal

Some fans have been critical of recent errors by Rudd and would like to see Dillon Phillips given another chance. Phillips is unlikely to stay as No.2 if Rudd is given a permanent contract.

Three draws in four games

Charlton drew 3-3 at Rochdale yesterday, their third draw in four games, enabling them to secure thirteenth place in the table. Manager Karl Robinson said that the chances the Addicks had missed in the first half had been criminal.

Niall Canavan's opener was cancelled out by Jordan Botaka, while Jorge Teixeira put Charlton ahead before the break before Calvin Andrews' leveller. Substitute Nathaniel Mendez-Laing gave the home side the lead again, but Teixeira got his second just before full time.

Rochdale went ahead after four minutes following an error by Declan Rudd. He failed to claim McDermott's free kick, allowing Canavan to tap home. However, Rudd did well on 25 minutes with a diving save to keep out Andrews' header.

Five minutes from the break Botaka broke free and though his effort hit the post, he made no mistake with the rebound.

Substitute Stephy Mavididi ran past several home players in a 66th minute run, only to be denied by Wilson. From the corner Bauer nodded down for Teixeira to give the Addicks the lead. Once again Charlton showed they could not hold on to a lead when Henderson's cross was headed past Rudd by Andrew.

Mendez-Laing put a curling shot past a diving Rudd on 84 minutes but Bauer nodded down for Teixeira to score the equaliser two minutes from the end.

Robinson to sign new keeper?

It is being rumoured that Karl Robinson is to sign a new keeper with Declan Rudd sidelined because of injury until the new year. One name being mentioned is that of Ian McLoughlin who played under Robinson at the Franchisees.

I think that Dillon Phillips has performed well so far, although admittedly we do not have experienced cover and that is presumably what McLoughlin would be. He last played in 2014 for Newport County and is currently a free agent: Career details

Norwich may recall Rudd

Norwich City could recall Declan Rudd in the January transfer window. It would be their last chance to make some money out of the keeper who has interested Championship clubs: Nervous wait

Charlton could make an offer themselves, particularly given Rudd has expressed an interest in staying, but he could cost a significant amount.

Phillips bids for No.1 spot

After an impressive performance at Bristol Rovers, academy graduate Dillon Phillips hopes to bid for the position of No.1 keeper at Charlton while Declan Rudd is out injured: I can play at League One level

He was disappointed not to keep a clean sheet.

It is always good to have some competition for the position of keeper.

New manager at Bristol

Karl Robinson was at Bristol Rovers tonight as he prepared to take over as Charlton manager. He met with Roland Duchatelet in Paris yesterday and accepted the role. He will be the eighth manager in the last three years.

Most Addicks seemed underwhelmed or indifferent at the news and speculated how long he would last.

The absence of Declan Rudd with a hip injury was the shock team news from Bristol tonight with Phillips replacing him in goal. There was also surprise at Chicksen replacing Johnnie Jackson.

Rudd's pride

Declan Rudd thinks that Charlton's defence has been a rare source of pride in a difficult season. The Addicks have conceded just 14 goals in 15 league games so far.

Rudd told the Football League Paper 'We're second in the league for goals conceded and it would probably be better if we'd had longer partnerships in the centre back position.'

Pigs can fly - and Charlton can win

The start of the game between Charlton and Coventry City was halted for six minutes when the pitch was bombarded with toy pigs from four sides of the ground. But Charlton went on to win 3-0, moving up to 15th in the table.

Not only were all the goals well taken, but they were well deserved. Ricky Holmes, Ademola Lookman and Josh Magennis all put in a shift and Ademola's trickery and skill is a joy to behold. Admittedly, he did miss one golden chance to score, but he's still learning.

Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half, but Ulvestad turned provider for Holmes who scored in the 32nd minute.

The Addicks were just 1-0 up at the break and Coventry stepped up a gear at the start of the second half. We stopped pressing them and fell back too much with just a small gap between the defence and the midfield. Declan Rudd had to make a super save to prevent an own goal.

Magennis unselfishly turned provider for Lookman 12 minutes before the end and then Magennis lobbed the keeper to put the result beyond doubt.

Hanlan had a cameo and looked lively and effective.

Football League Paper rankings

Rudd, 7; Solly, 6; Bauer, 6; Pearce, 7; Fox, 6; Crofts, 6; Ulvestad, 7; Holmes, 8; Lookman, 7; Novak, 5; Magennis 7.

Rudd wants to make a name for himself

Declan Rudd has been talking to a Norwich site about how he wants to make a name himself as a first choice keeper: Not such an odd decision

Without a game today, Charlton have fallen back to 10th. Millwall drew 1-1 at home with Bradford and are 4th.

Welcome, Declan Rudd

Declan Rudd has been signed on a year's loan from Norwich City as a keeper, filling the biggest gap in the side: Declan Rudd

He played for Preston last season and the fans there are full of praise for him.

Signings reports bring little cheer

Reports from Wiltshire that Russell Slade is about to bring Louis Thompson and Declan Rudd in on loan from Norwich City have done little to comfort disillusioned Addicks: Possible signings

Thompson is a 21-year midfielder of Welsh origin whose career was kick started by Paolo di Canio when he was managing at Swindon: Career details

Declan Rudd would provide the much needed goalkeeper in addition to Phillips. He is now listed on Wikipedia as playing for Charlton: Norfolk through and through

The extent of disillusionment is shown by the fact that there were only 1,409 Charlton supporters at yesterday's final friendly at The Valley with another 217 who had made the trip from the Netherlands. There was a time when this game was a big occasion which I and others would not miss.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw with RKC Waalwijk. They hardly compare with pre-season opponents we once had such as Spurs and Hearts (the latter for Alan Curbishley's testimonial year).

VOTV editor Rick Everitt has tweeted that this may be the lowest post-war attendance for a first team fixture at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic Museum have responded that it was a friendly, hence not a proper first team fixture, but admitted that it was still a very low crowd.

At least the club hasn't brought any civil legal proceedings against fans yet which is what is happening at Blackpool: Popular owners

There is an excellent post on the Drinking During the Game blog which sums up our desperate situation and Roland's motivations very well: Not a good place
