Fragile defence sees another defeat

Charlton's fragile defence conceded three goals against Accrington Stanley at The Valley tonight to lose 2-3.

Pell put the visitors ahead on nine minutes with an unstoppable free kick.   Just after the half hour mark, Charlton equalised through an own goal by Morgan. after the visitors failed to clear a Gilbey cross.  A Pell free kick three minutes later struck the crossbar.

Charlton started the second half brightly, but then Pell who was unmarked in the six yard box was able to tap the ball in for his second.   Shortly afterwards MacGillivray had to make a good save from former Leamington ace Bishop.

Nine minutes after the Pell goal Hamilton came in from the right and was given too much space to make it 3-1.

Great work by substitute Washington set up Stockley to make it 2-3.  Charlton tried to keep up the pressure and won some corners, but Washington put the ball into the side netting.

Fans chanted 'We want Adkins out' at the end of the game.

The other relegation zone clubs all lost so Charlton remain third from bottom.  Doncaster lost 1-0 at Gillingham, Oxford United beat Shrewsbury 2-0 and Crewe lost 0-4 at home to Saturday's opponents Sunderland.

Charlton are four points off safety and Fleetwood on 20th have a game in hand.
